About
Woodturner, Teacher & Demonstrator
I’m Emily Ford, the woodturner, instructor and demonstrator behind SheTurnsWood. I began turning in 2015 when I set out to make a captive-ring rattle for my youngest son, and that one project opened the door to a lifelong practice. Today my work follows life from beginning to end—baby rattles and spinning tops, bowls and ornaments, hollow forms and urns—with a focus on useful objects, strong form and the stories carried by wood. I’ve demonstrated at the Utah Woodturning Symposium and Woodturners Worldwide, served as Social Media Specialist for the AAW International Symposium, and taught at the Dale L. Nish School of Woodturning at Craft Supplies USA. My background in history, folklore and photography shapes how I see both craft and teaching. Whether I’m in my shop, leading a class or demonstrating for a club, my goal is the same: make woodturning less intimidating, more approachable and genuinely fun. If you can turn a bead and a cove, you can turn anything.
